Entering into warmer months, my team started preparing for one of The District Departments of Transportation's largest global initiatives and main annual events, Open Streets DC. A reoccurring series of summer days, where the nation's capital closes a stretch of roadway to motor vehicles, allowing for a safe space for walking, biking, skating, performances and other social activities.
In early 2023 I was tasked with completely reconceptualizing the promotional materials and design strategy, as well as overhauling the identity of the event as future event dates are planned. The approach I took drew inspiration from old carnival and local state fair posters along with elements recognizable from street lines and maps. Beginning with the logo treatment, each specific deliverable application worked as a cohesive system of digital social media promotion methods, printed signage, apparel, and other mixed media.
